Renowned French architect Paul Andreu on Tuesday unveiled his latest work on the blueprint of a multi-functional commercial block in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

Entrusted by casino tycoon Stanley Ho, Andreau put forward the concept of "Oceanus" in his plan to build a commercial, residential, shopping, entertainment and recreational complex at the Outer Harbor area in the gaming city.

The architect famous for his projects of the National Grand Theater in Beijing and the Pudong Airport in Shanghai, was commissioned to transform the image and skyline of Macao through his design in the 775 million US dollars project.

The idea of "Oceanus" comes from the location of the project, which seats at the coastal entrance of Macao.

The project covering approximately 47,000 square meters will include a reclamation area of 25,868 square meters. The main elongated building spanning into the sea is a monolithic structureraised off the street levels creating generous traffic and pedestrian spaces at ground level.

The building houses a luxury hotel of about 600 rooms, suites and serviced apartments. The building with an extended part linking to the Macao Ferry Terminal Building also has casino and entertainment spaces and a large shopping center.

Stanley Ho, Managing Director of SJM, said the vast area covered, the many facilities offered and the considerable amount invested in this project, complicated by other factors such as transportation and environmental concerns, imply that SJM is not aiming at immediate rewards, but at the future overall developmentof Macao, with focus on the urbanization, modernization and internationalization of the City.

SJM is the only gaming concessionaire rooted in Macao with the other two held by American and Hong Kong contenders. The Oceanus Complex has been considered SJM's brandname project launched in response to the gaming market competition in Macao.

SJM will hold a contest for the Chinese name of the project later this year.
