Russian President Putin has opened a war memorial on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow on Saturday. The memorial consists of fifteen obelisks that symbolize the victory in World War II.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Putin declared: " Our people not only defended the Motherland, but also liberated eleven countries in Europe. The aggressor's military machine was defeated on battle fields all the way from the Barents Sea to the Caucasus."

"Never before such mass heroism, such a spread of the partisan war, such enthusiasm and efforts made by workers of the home front to do everything for the army had been known to the world."

"We shall always remember and honor the exploit of the generation of the winners. They defended our right to live, have our own statehood and culture and safeguarded the future of our children, " Putin declared at the ceremony on Poklonnaya hill.
