font size

The construction of Xiamen Xiang'an tunnel, the first undersea tunnel so far in China, has officially started.

The tunnel project starts from the Huandao road in Xiamen Island and ends at west bank of Xiang'an district, Xiamen city in southeast China's Fujian province. The project, which adopts the undersea blasting and undermining methods traversing the eastern sea of Xiamen, has a total length of 8.695 km with the tunnel length amounting to 5.95 km.

Xiang'an tunnel, with a total investment approaching 3.2 billion yuan, is to become Xiamen's third external channel after Xiamen Bridge and Haicang Bridge.
