Taiwan sees "panda craze"

Taiwan has witnessed a "panda craze" recently. A civil organization held a mass signing ceremony on May 7 to support the pandas offered by the mainland to settle in Taiwan.

Moreover, local media make cartoon staring panda, which are currently a limelight in Taiwan. Survey conducted by Taiwan media shows that nearly 70 percent of Taiwan people are in favor of accepting the pandas as gifts from the mainland.

According to Taiwan media, one hot issue on the island has been that whether Taiwan should accept the mainland's offer of pandas. Numerous proponents participated in the signing ceremony held at Da-An Park in Taipei on May 7.

"There is no politics, no right or wrong with panda, there is only black and white," said a supporter.

Other Taiwan people held that panda is precious for Taiwan because there is no panda there. Some people deemed that people like pandas out of instinct. They just like it but have no other intention.

TVBS's poll shows the 70 percent people are in favor of the pandas to come to the island, whether out of curiosity or their confidence in Taiwan's ability to raise the pandas. Those people fond of pandas regard that the offer should not be linked to politics.
