Denmark is aiming at taking the top place in the Group 1A at the Sudirman Cup badminton tournament in order to avoid hosts China in the semifinals, said Denmark coach Jan Sandahl Jorgensen in Beijing Wednesday.
Denmark beat Thailand 4-1 in their second group match Wednesday following their 3-2 victory over England Tuesday and next takes on defending champion South Korea on Thursday.
But the official result between Denmark and Thailand will not be finalized until Thursday because Thailand refused to sign on the result sheet, referee Keith Hawthorne revealed. The International Badminton Federation is to hold a meeting Thursday to discuss the matter.
"We will do everything to win South Korea because we do not want to play China. If we beat South Korea, we will become the winner of our group," said Jorgensen. "We believe that China will win the other group and Indonesia will finish runner-up."
According to the schedule, Group 1A winner will meet the runner-up of Group 1B.
Jorgensen admitted that South Korea would be a very tough opponent to beat, especially when they were not certain whether South Korea's world champions Kim Dong Moon and Ra Kyung Min would be paired up for the mixed doubles.
"The two were playing separate matches in the first two days and we watched their games," he said. "We did a lot of video filming.
But we can't tell you what we are thinking about them and what we will do. It is part of the game."
