Pakistan denies news about killing of al-Qaeda operative
font size

Pakistani Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sheikh Rashid Ahmed Saturday denied reports that a senior al-Qaeda operative was killed by a US missile on the Pakistani territory.

"I officially contradict a news item regarding killing of an al-Qaeda operative, Hashim Al-Yamani, on the Pakistani soil and reports in a section of American media on the subject are incorrect," he told reporters in Islamabad.

Rashid said no such incident occurred on the soil of Pakistan. "Nor we have knowledge about such happening in Afghanistan," he added.

The American Broadcasting Company television said Friday that the al-Qaeda leader was killed this week with a missile fired by an unmanned US Predator plane in the mountain region of Pakistan close to the border with Afghanistan.
