Four people killed in car bomb attack in northern Iraq
font size

A suicide car bomb attack struck the government headquarters of the Iraqi town of Tuz Khurmatu, south of Kirkuk, on Monday, killing four people and wounding more than 10 others, police said.

"A suicide bomber drove an explosive-laden vehicle outside the building of the government headquarters of the town, killing four people and wounding more than 10 others," Tikrit US-Iraqi liaison office said in a statement.

Iraqi security forces cordoned off the area in the town, some 90 km east of Tikrit, the statement said.

Earlier, the al-Jazeera television reported the attack was targeting the convoy of a senior Kurdish official of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). Muhammed Mahmoud Jigareti survived unhurt, but five people were killed and about 18 others wounded.

However, a PUK official in Baghdad could not confirm the incident.

Insurgents have mounted attacks on government officials since a new government was announced in late April, killing more than 550 people.
