A powerful car bomb blast resonated throughout the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on Tuesday, killing at least two people, witnesses said.
"A car bomb detonated at about 10:30 a.m. (0630 GMT) targeting an Iraqi police patrol at Wathiq Square in central Baghdad," witness Iden al-Baiyati told Xinhua.
Eight others were wounded in the attack and several cars were set on fire, Baiyati said.
Iraqi police cordoned off the area and ambulances rushed the casualties to nearby hospitals, he added.
The attack is the latest in a series of car bombs and suicide attacks since a Shiite-dominated government was announced on April 28, killing over 550 people hitherto.
