Seven US soldiers killed in bomb attacks in Iraq

Seven US soldiers were killed and three others wounded in bomb attacks in Iraq in the past 24 hours, the US military said.

A car bomb exploded as a US patrol passed in central Baghdad on Tuesday, killing three American soldiers, the US military said.

The attack took place at about 1:30 p.m. (0930 GMT) when a car bomb was detonated next to a military patrol, killing three US soldiers from the US Third Infantry Division, the military said in a statement.

In a separate incident, four US soldiers were killed on Monday when a homemade bomb exploded at the US troops in Haswa area, some 50 km south of Baghdad, the US military said in another statement.

The four victims were assigned to the 155th Brigade Combat Team of the Second Marine Expeditionary Force, the statement added.

Elsewhere, an improvised explosive device detonated late on Monday in Ramadi, some 110 km west of Baghdad, destroying a US Bradley fighting vehicle and wounding three US soldiers, the military said.

Over 1,635 US soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the US-led invasion in March 2003, according to media reports.
