At least four people including one policeman and three attackers were killed and a dozen of others injured Monday in a suicide attack in the restive southern port city of Karachi in Sindh province of Pakistan, according to private Geo television.
The blast took place at the time of evening prayers inside a mosque of Madinat-ul-Ilm in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal district in central Karachi. Mosque guards opened fire and killed two attackers and the third one blew himself up, said the report, adding detonators and explosives were recovered from the bodies of the two attackers.
The injured had been shifted to a nearby hospital and some of them were stated to be in critical condition.
The incident triggered disturbances in different parts of the city, leaving two oil pumps and at least four vehicles on ablaze.
No one has claimed responsibility for the incident.
Sindh Home Minister Rauf Sibiqi condemned the attack and said the security agencies had put on high alert in Karachi.
Monday's suicide attack came three days after a powerful explosion occurred at a Shiite shrine last week in Islamabad, which killed about 20 people and injured over 100 others.
