Saddam's trial should start within 2 months -- Talabani
font size

Iraqi President Jalal al-Talabani said in an interview with CNN on Tuesday that the toppled leader Saddam Hussein is expected to be tried within two months.

Asked when a trial for Saddam might begin, Talabani said, "I hope within two months."

"The Iraqi government is now doing its best to prepare the ground for a court which will be able to decide Saddam Hussein's future," Talabani said.

Many Iraqi politicians insisted that Saddam should go on trial for alleged crimes against humanity within months. However, Iraqi prosecutors and some US officials said they were expecting the trial to be in 2006.
