Peruvian president starts six-day state visit to China

Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo arrived in Beijing Wednesday afternoon, starting a six-day state visit to China at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao.

Toledo is expected to hold talks with Hu, and meet with other senior Chinese leaders including Chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said earlier.

In addition to Beijing, the Peruvian president will also visit Shanghai, Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, and Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province, Kong said.

China and Peru set up diplomatic ties 34 years ago. In 2004, the bilateral trade volume reached 1.94 billion US dollars. In January this year, the two announced to form a comprehensive and cooperative partnership.
