font size

A total of 135 middle school students in the city of Baotou, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, suffered food poisoning on Monday, with 24 still hospitalized as of Wednesday afternoon.

Lu Wei, vice director of the education bureau of the city's Donghe District, said 135 students from the Second and Eighth Middle Schools suffered from nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Most students left the hospital Monday after taking medicine and receiving transfusions.

The students are thought to have drunken water produced by a local water maker before feeling sick.

An investigation is underway.
