Chinese, Equatorial Guinean FMs vow to cement bilateral relations
font size

Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said Monday in Beijing that China is ready to join hands with Equatorial Guinea in a bid to cement the friendly cooperative relations.

During the talks with Pastor Micha Ondo Bile, Equatorial Guinean Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Francophone, Li said China and Equatorial Guinea have witnessed steady and sound development of bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties 35 years ago.

The China-Equatorial Guinea relations have entered a new phase of rapid development, in recent years in particular, Li said. The two countries have enjoyed increasing political mutual trust and had close consultations and mutual support on international issues. The bilateral economic and trade cooperation gains a strong momentum.

Li also expressed appreciation for the Equatorial Guinean government's adherence to the one-China policy.

Micha said China and Equatorial Guinea have scored great development in various fields since the establishment of diplomatic ties, which have brought substantial benefits to the people of the two countries.

He said he expects further expansion of cooperation between the two countries and welcomes China's investment there.

Micha reaffirmed the government will, as always, adhere to the one-China policy and oppose any "Taiwan independence" activity of the Taiwan authorities and any attempt that will be detrimental to the friendship between China and Africa.

The two sides also exchanged views on the reform of the United Nations Security Council. The different reform plans should be put under full discussion among different parties so as to reach consensus, Micha said, adding that Equatorial Guinea does not stand for forced vote on immature plans.

Micha arrived here Sunday on a six-day official visit to China at the invitation of Li.
