Indonesia condemns terror on embassy in Canberra
font size

Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda here Tuesday condemned the acts of sending two envelopes containing suspicious powder to Indonesian Embassy in Canberra, saying that such acts will not disturb bilateral relation of the countries.

"Because this is part of a series of terror threats, we condemn the acts...The accidents will not hamper the relation of Indonesia and Australia," Wirajuda was quoted by the Detik Online as saying after meeting with Australian parliament members.

"We have just received some members of Australian Senate. They all condemn these accidents, saying that such acts don't represent the government of Australia," he said.

All the Indonesian diplomatic mission offices in Australia will beef up their security in response to the terrors, he added.

The Indonesian Embassy received an envelope of suspicious powder Tuesday morning, which might have harmed five staff members.

Last week, the embassy received an envelope containing biological agent of the Bacillus group of bacteria and therefore closed for three days.

The incidents have been regarded as apparent reprisal for Australian beautician Schapelle Corby's jail in Indonesia for drug smuggling.

Corby, 27, was sentenced to 20-year imprisonment by an Indonesian court last week. The ruling has incurred protest by Australians who believe Corby is innocent.
