The ruling Fatah movement's Revolutionary Council agreed to the proposal made by Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas to introduce the post of vice president, local press reported Tuesday.
At the conclusion of its three-day meetings held in the West Bank city of Ramallah, the council said Abbas' idea of nominating a vice president is one of the means to reinforce transparency and accountability and secure better services to the citizens.
It also announced in its concluding statement that Abbas will send a letter to the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC), demanding an amendment to the Basic Law to introduce the vice president post and outline his authorities and jurisdictions.
The council, which is the second-highest ruling institution in Fatah, also decided to reformulate the preparatory committee of the Fatah's sixth general conference, which will be commissioned to prepare a full report on the organizational conditions inside and abroad.
Fatah Central Committee will discuss the report in its next meeting in the Jordanian capital of Amman in the second half of June and decide the new date of the general conference, said the council statement.
