Fengyun-2 C meteorologic satellite put into operation
font size

As the main flood season approaches, FY (Fengyun)-2 C ("Fengyun" means wind and cloud in Chinese), China's first independently developed and manufactured meteorologic satellite, has been officially put into operation.

The clear nephogram and high-quality data sent by the satellite will be of help to the meteorological services across the country, said Yang Jun, director of the National Satellite Meteorological Center of China Meteorological Administration (CMA) on June 8.

Since operation from June 1, the satellite has played an important role in the flood monitoring in some localities in southern China.

The satellite will start on June 15 to send back forecasts of precipitation etc. to tighten the monitoring on typhoon, precipitation, drought, fog, snow and ice so as to ensure more efficient services in the flooding season and all the year round.
