The principal airport of Bolivia in the city of El Alto was paralyzed Thursday by protests of airport workers.
The employees of the Autonomous Administration of Air- Navigation Auxiliary Services (AASANA) considered likely to extend the strike to two other Bolivian airports.
Vice Minister of Transportation Mauricio Navarro said the government will seek help from the General Civil Aeronautics Direction (DGAC) aid landings during the strike.
AASANA workers demanded that Senate leader Hormando Vaca Diez and Lower House of Congress leader Mario Cossio give up their right to succeed Carlos Mesa as president after the latter's resignation.
If both Diez and Cossio step aside and refuse to replace Mesa, that would allow President of the Supreme Court Eduardo Rodriguez to become interim leader and call early elections within six months to elect a new president.
On Thursday, Congress is to decide on Mesa's resignation and the succession during an emergency session at Sucre, the constitutional capital of Bolivia.
