A Chinese film named as "Gimme Kudos" was shown on Sunday at the 8th Shanghai International Film Festival, starting the process for selection of the Jin Jue Award.

In addition to Gimme Kudos, which was directed by Huang Jianxin, telling a story about a small potato and full of black humor, 16 other films from 16 countries including Japan, Germany, France, Argentina, New Zealand, Canada, Italy and Russia will compete for the Jin Jue Award under eight categories at the nine-day festival, which opened on Saturday.

Apart from Jin Jue Award, another award known as "Asian New Talent Award" will also be conferred by the end of the festival, according to the organizers.

The annual Shanghai International Film Festival, initiated in 1993, is the only of its kind in China and one of the two Category A international film festivals in Asia.
