Twenty-seven Paleolithic era sites unearthed
font size

Chinese archeologists have since January this year discovered 27 sites of the Paleolithic era in the Jixian county of north China's port city Tianjin, together with nearly 1,000 pieces of handmade stone products.

Chen Yong, head of culture heritage protection center, said the excavated products can be traced back to 10,000 -- 100,000 years ago. Handmade marks are clearly left on these unearthed, with flint stone and quartzite texture. These stone products include scrapers, acute-head instrument, and stone digging pieces.

From the unearthed, Chen and his team concluded that these sites were in the late Paleolithic era. Their investigation also found some sites of the transition phase between Paleolithic and Neolithic period.

Chen noted that his center, in collaboration with other domestic scientific institutions, will continue in-depth research to make clear the era, nature and characteristics of the excavated.
