A tsunami warning issued Tuesday night after a major earthquake in the Pacific off California was canceled, local office of the National Weather Service said.
The 7.0-magnitude earthquake, which struck at 7:50 p.m. local time some 150 kilometers southwest of the coastal Crescent City and 480 kilometers northwest of San Francisco, was felt by residents of some coastal areas in northern California.
A tsunami warning and watch status along the Pacific coast from the US-Mexico border to Canada's British Columbia prompted by the quake was called off about an hour after the earthquake, according to the National Weather Service's L.A. office here.
The office said in a statement that no tsunami danger exists for California for the time being, noting that some areas may experience small sea level changes.
Water levels remain normal at all coastal sites in the state and no wave has been detected after the earthquake, it said.
