Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei has threatened to suspend cabinet activities if security forces do not act immediately against surging chaos in the territories, local press reported on Wednesday.
Speaking at an economic conference on Tuesday, Qurei said that he called for preventive procedures "to put a limit to violations of law."
He said he had asked chiefs of security apparatuses to act effectively and seriously to stop the chaos that has plagued the Palestinian lands.
"We will not allow any abuse of power and every official and officer must carry out their responsibilities," Qurei stressed, adding "no one should hesitate to punish anybody in case of security violations."
He said the cabinet decided to form a special committee comprising ministers of civil affairs, interior, justice, planning, education and religious endowment to deal with the growing lawlessness.
The security situation has deteriorated lately across the Palestinian territories with frequent murders and random use of firearms. Armed members of the ruling Fatah movement and Palestinian security forces have been involved in some of the violence.
Three Palestinians were killed on Tuesday in a drive-by shooting attack in Gaza City due to family feud and police found the body of another Palestinian kidnapped earlier by unidentified gunmen.
