Number of obese people in China to exceed 200 million by 2015

Currently, number of obese people in China has far exceeded 90 million, and the people suffering from overweight stand as high as 200 million. According to experts' estimation, the number of obese people in China will go beyond 200 million by 2015.

It is said that ill habits, for instance, eating too much and lack of physical exercises, are the major causes of obesity; while genetic factors take up 16 percent and endocrine imbalance accounts for even less.

As experts point out, obesity has become a very serious social problem in China so far. Particularly, childhood obesity is rather worrying. Statistics show that children suffering from obesity in China have now taken up 10 percent of the nation��s total, and it is growing by eight percent annually.

Obesity not only triggers many diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure as well as cancer, but also results in premature death. Statistics show that the risk of premature death obesity patients suffers is 130 percent to 200 percent higher than the average group does.
