The trade volume between south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the 10-member ASEAN reached 430 million US dollars in the first five months of this year, according to the latest customs statistics.

The volume was a 30-percent rise from same period of last year,said sources with customs of Nanning, capital of Guangxi.

Guangxi imported 130 million US dollars of goods from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) between January and May, down 7.9 percent from same period of last year, while its export volume reached 300 million US dollars, a surge of 58.2 percent year-on-year. Guangxi's main exports to ASEAN countries include chemical fertilizer, steel, costumes, fruits and herbal medicines, and it mainly imported rubber and coal products from ASEAN countries.

ASEAN, consisting of Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, the Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar and the Philippines, is Guangxi's largest trade partner while Guangxi is a major land and water gateway for ASEAN nations to China.

Guangxi, the permanent venue for the China-ASEAN Expo, is preparing for the second fair of the trade event in mid-October.
