In anticipation of prosperous times for the electronics industry in Taiwan, foreign institutional investors have continued to increase their purchases of Taiwan stocks, which has boosted the market value of Taiwan listed companies by 143.96 billion new Taiwan dollars (4.59 billion US dollars) this week.

According to reports reaching here from Taipei Saturday, Taiwan Stock Exchange statistics show that the combined market value of listed companies in Taiwan reached 410.73 billion new Taiwan dollars (13.09 billion US dollars) this week.

The statistics also show that gainers outnumbered losers in the20 top major industries, with the market value of listed companiesin the automobile, tourism and wholesale and retail industries showing an increase of over 2 percent.

The weighted index, the key barometer of the Taiwan Stock Exchange, ended at 6,340.69 Friday, a surge of 47.13 points from last week.

There have been 116 trading days on the Taiwan Stock Exchange so far this year, with a daily average turnover of 68.94 billion new Taiwan dollars (2.19 billion US dollars).
