Bangladeshi police are interrogating a youth whether he link with al-Qaeda network after he was arrested for threatening to blow up two embassies in Dhaka through an e.mail message.
A senior police officer demanding not to be named told Xinhua Monday, "We are interrogating the youth if he has any link with al- Qaeda network."
The official said the youth Hasanul Huq, who used his name in the e.mail messages as Nazrul, has been in a two-day police custody. He threatened to blow up the embassies of Japan, the Netherlands and also the headquarters of the Rapid Action Battalion, an elite force formed by the Bangladeshi government last year to combat crimes.
Police arrested him from the city's Mohammadpur residential area Sunday after the youth issued the threats on Saturday.
In the e.mail message, Hasanul Huq also demanded to free a top terrorist in the country, who was arrested and being interrogated by the Interpol and the US FBI agent in connection with last year's Aug. 21 grenade attack on a rally of Bangladeshi main opposition the Awami League, which left 22 people dead, hundreds injured. The rally was being addressed by Sheikh Hasina, chief of the Awami League and former prime minister.
The police officer said, "We are also investigation his motif for issuing the threats to embassies."
