Blair reiterates his support for London's bid for 2012 Olympics
font size

British Prime Minister Tony Blair Monday spoke highly of London's bid for the 2012 Olympic Games, just a week before the winning host city is picked.

"We've got a strong bid," Blair said at his monthly news conference. "We've just got to go and make our case."

London is seen as a serious contender, closing the gap on front-runner Paris in recent months in a race that also includes New York, Madrid and Moscow. The winner will be announced by the International Olympic Committee in Singapore on July 6.

"I'm confident in the strength of our bid," Blair added. "It'sa matter for the IOC to determine."
