Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi on Wednesday called on the United Nations to heed the concerns of Muslim countries regarding the "discriminatory approaches of some big powers", the official IRNA news agency reported.
Kharazi made the appeal in a meeting with Ali Altas, special envoy of the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan to the 32nd meeting of the foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) that kicked off on Tuesday in Yemeni capital of Sanaa.
"The concerns of the Islamic states regarding the discriminatory attitudes of some powerful countries are important and should be attended to seriously," Kharazi was quoted as saying.
He said discriminatory approaches of the powerful countries aimed to establish unfair structures and strategies which were incompatible with the interests and objectives of the developing countries.
"Further contribution of the member states to setting up logical and fair structures and strategies could be effective in promoting the role of the United Nations in the world arena," Kharazi said.
The top Iranian diplomat also described as "sensitive" the issues and topics to be included on the agenda of the next UN meeting which will focus on the global body's reforms.
Kharazi arrived in Sanaa on Tuesday for the three-day OIC foreign minister meeting, which is expected to discuss the creation of an emergency fund and the restructuring of the OIC and the UN reforms.
