font size

The Global Alliance for Preserving the History of WWII in Asia on behalf of many US human rights organizations on June 30, 2005 delivered to the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan a petition with 42 million signatures they collected in 41 countries, opposing Japan to be given a permanent seat in the UN Security Council before it acknowledges its crimes in the World War II (WWII) and makes sincere apology and compensation to the victims.

Apart from a petition, representatives of the organization also wrote a letter to Annan, saying that Japan must stop denying and distorting its WWII crimes. Japan must apologize through legal means and Japanese Emperor and Prime Minister should make apologies to all the countries that had suffered from its wartime atrocities. Meanwhile, the representatives also demanded that Japan compensate individual victims, collect and preserve the evidence of the crimes it committed during the WWII, make not distortion or cover-up of them in textbooks as well as prohibit any denial of such a history and stipulate that any violation shall be punished.

On June 30, 2005, the Global Alliance for Preserving the History of WWII in Asia held demonstration in front of the UN headquarters in New York and held a meeting, exposing and criticizing Japan's erroneous act of denying its WWII atrocities.
