Syrian security forces detained two "terrorists" on Monday in a dawn clash on Mount Qassioun which overlooks the capital, the official SANA news agency reported.
"The clash took place early on Monday on Mount Qassioun with a group of people wanted for terrorist crimes and some of whom were former bodyguards of Saddam Hussein," SANA said.
A policeman was killed in the clash, it added.
Earlier on Sunday, SANA reported that the Syrian forces recently killed a member of a Muslim militant group who was trying to illegally cross the border into Lebanon.
Two soldiers were killed in the clash and 34 non-Syrian Arab militants arrested, SANA said, without saying when the incident occurred.
Syrian forces also found an "isolated house" used by the extremists, where forged passports and other documents were found, SANA said.
