China and Germany to jointly set up a Confucius CollegeOn behalf of China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (NOCFL), Dr. Liu Jinghui, Minister-counsellor with the Educational Office of Chinese Embassy in Germany, signed an agreement of cooperation intention on jointly establishing a Confucius College with Free University of Berlin (FU Berlin), Germany on July 3, 2005. The objective of the Confucius College attached to FU Berlin is to promote and develop Chinese teaching in Germany and encourage activities that could generate general public's interests in China and Chinese Language, such as academic lectures, symposiums as well as Chinese Film Festival, etc. China and Germany will jointly provide the Confucius College with human, material as well as financial resources, and share the management. NOCFL has jointly set up Confucius Colleges with the relevant institutions and universities in ROK, the US and Sweden so far. The Confucius College attached to FU Berlin will open by the end of 2005.
