Li Changchun, a senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official, met in Beijing Monday with Jose Renato Rabelo, chairman of the Communist Party of Brazil.

Li, a member of the Standing Committee the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee, said the relations between China and Brazil have developed smoothly with frequent high-level visits since the two countries set up diplomatic ties 31 years ago.

In 2004, Chinese President Hu Jintao and Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva exchanged visits, upgrading the bilateral strategic partnership to a new level.

"The mutual-beneficial cooperation between China and Brazil and their joint efforts in seeking common prosperity will not only benefit the interests of the two peoples but also have a profound impact on the development of Asia and the Latin America," Li said.

On party relations, Li said the CPC values its traditional friendship with the Communist Party of Brazil and is ready to enhance the friendly exchanges with Brazil's major parties including the Communist Party of Brazil.

He said the CPC is willing to take party exchanges as an important channel to exchange views on international and bilateral issues including UN reform to seek consensus and jointly promote the development of state-to-state relations.

Renato Rabelo said the long-term traditional friendship between the two parties is founded on complete equality, mutual respect and sincere cooperation.

He said China's successful experience in developing socialism with Chinese characteristics provides an important example for the developing countries.

The cooperation between Brazil and China are a key component of south-south cooperation, he said, adding that the Brazil-China strategic partnership will not only benefit the two peoples but also help promote the establishment of a fair and reasonable international political and economic order.

He also expressed his party's willingness to continue to consolidate and develop friendly ties with the CPC and make more contribution to boost the bilateral mutual-beneficial cooperation in all fields.
