Unknown gunmen opened fire on July 5 at a top diplomat of Bahrain embassy in Baghdad and wounded him, police said.

Hassan al-Ansari, the charge d'affaires of Bahrin's diplomatic mission to Iraq, was shot and wounded by gunmen on Tuesday morning at Harithiyah neighborhood in western Baghdad, a police officer at the scene told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

He was shot several bullets in his body, he said, adding that Ansari was evacuated to Yarmouk hospital to be treated of his wounds.

Insurgents kidnapped Egypt's designated ambassador to Iraq, Iyhab al-Sharif three days ago in western Baghdad.
