NATO convoy attacked in Afghanistan
font size

A convoy of NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) came under attack in northern Baghlan province Tuesday but left no casualties, spokesperson of the multinational troops said Wednesday.

"A military vehicle convoy from PRT (Provincial Reconstruction Team) of Pul-e-Khumri received small arms fire while traveling from Baghlan province to Kabul early yesterday. There were no reports of injuries to the ISAF soldiers," Karen Tissot Van Patot told a press conference.

It is the second time in the past two months that ISAF soldiers were attacked in the relatively peaceful Baghlan province.

A bomb attack on ISAF's PRT soldiers in Pul-e-Khumri last month wounded two Dutch soldiers.

In response to yesterday's incident, ISAF's spokesperson added that soldiers in the convoy returned small arms fire and after the initial exchange of fire, the convoy continued traveling toward Kabul.

Meantime, local people say that two civilians in Khinjan district of Baghlan province lost their lives in ISAF's firing while spokesperson Patot maintained that she had no further information.
