Yahoo launches SMS search service
font size

Yahoo Inc. on July 7 launched two new services to mobile phone users in the United States.

The first is SMS (Short Message Service). Users can receive related search results on weather, stock quotes and local business so long as they send a text message to the number "92466". Yahoo will also send a web link to the users for them to find more related results.

Customers of Cingular, Sprint and Verizon will be the first to enjoy the service.

In the other new service, Yahoo opened its search engine to Wireless Application Protocol-enabled phones. The service was previously only available to those that support HTML protocol. The service will first be available to costomers of Cingular, Sprint and T-Mobile.

With the continued improvement of wireless technology, Yahoo and Google are rivaling with each other in developing technologies suitable for mobile phones to win more customers and increase advertising income.
