Ethiopia PM condemns London bombings
font size

Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi on Friday condemned the deadly bombings that killed at least 50 people and injured another 700 in London.

"We vehemently condemn such barbaric acts for which there can be no justification whatsoever," Meles said in a letter to his British counterpart Tony Blair.

"These barbaric acts were calculated to wreak havoc in an indiscriminate manner on civilians and probably create problems for the successful outcome of the G8 summit," he said.

Meles and other African leaders were shocked that the attacks took place as leaders from the Group of Eight (G8) industrialized nations were meeting in Scotland to discuss aid to Africa.

G8 leaders have agreed to boost development aid to Africa by 50 billion dollars step-up debt relief, re-examine trade laws and extend AIDS treatment.
