British Prime Minister Tony Blair on Friday reassured the world that the politics the Group of Eight (G8) summit represents will "win and triumph over terrorism."

"We speak today in the shadow of terrorism but it will not obscure what we came here to achieve," Blair declared, flanked by fellow leaders of the G8 rich states and seven of their African counterparts.

He also said the 50 billion US dollar boost in development aid as agreed by the G8 summit was a message of hope that countered the hatred behind the London bomb attacks.

After hosting a meeting between leaders of the world's richest nations and those of seven poor African countries, Blair said terrorism will not affect the aim of the G8 summit as leaders keep their promises to help the African countries.

"There is no hope in terrorism. It's hope that is the alternative to this hatred," Blair noted.

Blair said the 50 billion US dollar in aid and the cancellation of debts of the poorest nations is a definitive expression of "our collective will to act in the face of death, disease and conflict. "

"It's a beginning of an end, and a real and achievable progress, " Blair said.

On climate change, one of the two major themes of the summit, Blair said the leaders had not hidden their disagreement of the past.

"We agree a process and plan of action that will initiate a new dialogue between the G8 countries and the emerging economies of the world, to slow down and reverse the rise in harmful greenhouse gas emissions," he said.

In his short statement, Blair also noted that on Thursday evening the G8 countries agreed to a substantial package of help to the Palestinians which amounted to 3 billion dollars in the years to come.

With that, he said, he was confident to see that Israel and Palestine will commit themselves side by side in peace.
