As part of administrative reforms, the government of Afghanistan has decided to purge its departments from possible agents of foreign intelligence agencies, Presidential spokesman announced Tuesday.
"It is very important to cleanse government departments from those elements who are on the pay roll of foreign intelligence agencies and serve foreign countries," Mohammad Karim Rahimi told reporters here.
He did not give more details. However, he added that two and a half decades of war facilitated foreign countries'intelligence services to work in Afghanistan.
"Afghanistan during the past over two decades of war and civil strife like a home without doors had paved the way for foreign security services to interfere in its affairs," Rahimi said without elaboration.
"Spying for foreigners is a treason and anyone found working for foreign agencies will be severely punished," he added.
