Photovoltaic solar energy electricity-generating roof to be built for National Indoor Stadium

The new National Indoor Stadium for the 2008 Olympic Games has got approval to build an "Photovoltaic solar energy electricity-generating roof". It is China's first solar electricity-generating project used for stadium.

The 100-KW photovoltaic solar electricity-generating equipment will be installed inside the metal roof and glass wall of the gymnasium respectively. Compared with photovoltaic solar electricity-generating system that operates independently, this system omitted storage cell, so it features low cost and high efficiency. Photovoltaic solar electricity-generating technology had been widely used in the venues and Olympic villages of the Atlanta and Sydney Olympic Games.

With designed life of 25 years, the system will generate 97,000 KWH annually. Compared with firepower electricity generation, it will save up to 1,000 tons of standard coals and reduce emission of carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide by 421 tons and 19 tons respectively.
