China, Russia to conduct scientific exploration in Lake Baikal
font size

Scientists from China and Russia will jointly launch a comprehensive scientific investigation into the Lake Baikal region next month, the largest of its kind in joint scientific activity ever held between the two countries.

Sources from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) say the team will check the ecological environment of Russia's Lake Baikal, the deepest lake in the world. Experts from both countries will research the possible influence of the regional climate in Baikal upon the climate of North China.

The activity will last 22 days, said Chen Zhu, vice-president of CAS.
