Afghan President Hamid Karzai arrived in Britain on Monday for a two-day official visit, which is expected to feature counter narcotics and anti-terrorism and Britain's commitment to Afghanistan.
Karzai is scheduled to have an audience with British Queen Elizabeth II and hold talks with Prime Minister Tony Blair and the Foreign, the Defense and the International Development Secretaries, according to a internet bulletin from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
"The president's visit will help to seal the UK's long-term commitment to Afghanistan. We have shared interests and work together in several fields, including counter narcotics and counter terrorism. The UK is committed to supporting the Afghan people as they work to build on the achievements of the past 3 years," the bulletin said.
Karzai and Blair would on Tuesday sign a statement on the " enduring relationship" between the two countries, a senior British official was quoted by the AP as saying.
The Afghan president is expected to meet a group of British Muslim leaders and deliver a speech at Chatham House titled " Global terrorism and the experience of Afghanistan". He will also address Parliamentarians at the Palace of |Westminster.
Accompanying the president were Foreign Minister Abdullah, Interior Minister Jalali, National Security Adviser Rassoul, Economy Minister Farhang and other government advisers and ministers.
