Arab League (AL) Secretary General Amr Moussa said Tuesday in Cairo that it was possible to hold an Arab summit to discuss the deteriorating situation in Iraq and the Palestinian territories.

"There is a general consensus that it is necessary to take a clear and quick stand toward the deteriorating situation (in Iraq and the Palestinian territories)," Moussa told reporters after a meeting with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak here.

"It is possible," Moussa said. "The door is open to all possibilities."

He said Mubarak was discussing the issue with Arab leaders.

Mubarak highlighted the importance of taking a clear Arab stance on regional developments, especially in Iraq and the Palestinian territories, said the AL chief.

"Everybody feels the dangerous situation with the same degree, and this is what I heard in Riyadh, Cairo, Damascus, Beirut, Algeria, Amman and Khartoum," Moussa said of his recent travel in the region.

"All, from leaders to the ministerial levels, are convinced that the situation is too dangerous to be left without taking a decisive position," he said.
