Brazilian player refrains from filing charges against Argentine

Sao Paulo soccer club player Edinaldo Batista Libanio "Grafite," said Tuesday he will not file charges against player of Argentine club Quilmes Leandro Desabato, for presumed racist insults received during the April 13 match at Morumbi Stadium during Libertadores Cup.

The decision was confirmed by the public relations advisory of the Brazilian player. The term to start the proceeding is September of this year.

"I refrained from resorting to justice. It is already in the past of my life, and he has already paid enough for what he did," said Grafite to a local television channel.

Desabato was arrested by the police on the pitch after the Sao Paulo-Quilmes match. Grafite had informed to the agents of the presumed insults during the recess.

The Argentine player got to spend 36 hours in prison at Sao Paulo and had to pay a 4,000 US dollar bail to be released.

Then, two witnesses who accused the Argentine player recognized they did not listen to the insults that led to the arrest by the Brazilian police.

They went to the police in the evening of that match to say they had seen on television the Quilmes defender discriminating the Brazilian player.
