Three reasons have affected Chinese cyclists' performance in the ongoing Tour de Qinghai Lake race, Chinese national team coach Fu Tingde said on Wednesday.
After the third stage of race from Qinghai Lake Hotel to Bird Island on Monday, China stood bottom in team classification, and their best rider, He Jie, was ranked a distant 84th in overall standings.
Fu said that the Tour de Qinghai Lake has risen to the top road cycling race in Asia, the participating teams are stronger than the previous ones.
The second reason was that Chinese cyclists lack experiences. The six participating riders come from three provincial teams of Chinese Army, Beijing and Yunnan, only two riders of who have previous experiences.
Furthermore, the preparing work had not been done well, Fu Tingde said,
According to Lucien Bailly, senior official of International Cycling Union (ICU), China should take measures to choose good riders and make reasonable training for the them.
