Sri Lanka establishes diplomatic relations with Bahamas

The Sri Lankan government said Wednesday that it has established formal diplomatic relations with the Central American island nation of Bahamas.

Sri Lanka's Foreign Ministry said in a press release that representatives from Sri Lanka and the Commonwealth of Bahamas signed a joint agreement in the United Nations headquarters of New York on Tuesday to establish the diplomatic relations.

The joint agreement, signed by the two countries' permanent representatives to the United Nations, undertakes to develop friendship and cooperation between the two countries based on the principles and norms of the UN Charter and international law.
