Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho urged his players to concentrate on playing for the Blues instead of thinging too much about next year's World Cup.
The Blues' star-studded squad is jam-packed with international players and many will have one eye on Germany next June in the build up to the World Cup.
Mourinho sent out a warning to his squad to keep their minds on their club football, saying: "Please, let me just say I told the players on the first day of the season that all over the season, they will have a lot of questions over World Cup, and I told them if they think too much of the World Cup, they are in danger because they don't play in Chelsea."
"I think players shouldn't think about that. They should think about training every day at their maximum potential to play for the club.
"If they perform for the club, the national team managers will pick them up. They shouldn't think of the national teams or World Cup consequences of their good work or bad work at the clubs.
"The World Cup is not an issue for me. I just want to win matches and trophies with my players and improve them.
"If I improve them, that will have good consequences on the national team. For example, Joe Cole is national team player and he wasn't a few months ago.
Mourinho was accompanied by new signing Shaun Wright-Phillips, who is the Portuguese coach's first English signing.
The former Porto boss insisted the inflated prices in the English market does not help him buy home-grown players.
"The English market is crazy. That's why it is so difficult to buy English players or players from English clubs.
"It was 21 million because of what he did last season for his club and for his country.
"He's a great player. In the English market, the prices are these kind of prices."
For his part, Wright-Phillips is not worrying about the price tag and is concentrating on proving himself on the pitch for his new club.
"It's down to my football, I'll let my football do the talking, " said Wright-Phillips.
"I hope City fans understand I want to better myself as a player and for me, Chelsea was the club to do it with.
"It was quite upsetting at the time, but it's an opportunity of a lifetime. Chelsea are a massive club and to not come would've been a mistake in my career.
"I took a chance, it's a great chance. Pearcey was a player, he understands the way football is and I don't think he will be too upset about it."
