At least 62 people, including eight foreigners, were killed in a series of blasts in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh early Saturday, the Egyptian health minister said.

"Until now, the number of killed has reached 62 and 110 wounded have been brought to the hospital in Sharm el-Sheikh," Mohammad Awad Tag Eddin said.

"It is possible that the death toll will rise," he added. Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Egyptian Tourism Ministry said 28 foreigners were among the injured.

Egyptian Interior Minister Habib el-Adli said earlier the death toll had risen to 59, including eight foreigners.

Several car bombing attacks rocked hotels and bazaars of the city after midnight when holiday makers were still out in bars.

One car bomb exploded in front of the Ghazala Hotel in Naama Bay, the site of most of the resort's luxury hotels. Another car bomb exploded in the old market in the heart of Sharm el-Sheikh, about 6 km from Naama Bay.

A third explosion occurred in a car park at the entrance to Naama Bay and it could have been a bag of explosives, police sources said.

So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the blasts.
