Delegations of the Republic of Korea (ROK)and the United States to the six-party talks held a bilateral meeting Monday morning in Beijing and exchanged views on solutions to the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, said an official with the ROK delegation on condition of anonymity.
The ROK delegation briefed the US side of the result of talks between delegations of the ROK and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) held Sunday in Beijing, the ROK official said.
The ROK and US delegations exchanged views on how to achieve substantial results in the new round of six-party talks and on what agreement that might be reached in the talks.
The meeting between the ROK and the US was aimed at pushing forward for a consensus in the talks that begin Tuesday, said the ROK official, who refused to give any detail about the meeting.
He also revealed that delegations of the ROK and Japan would meet early Monday afternoon.
The ROK delegation, headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Song Min-soon, arrived in Beijing Saturday morning, and the US delegation, led by US Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill, arrived Sunday afternoon.
