The two-time world club champions Real Madrid were stunned by struggling Japanese J-League club Tokyo Verdy 3-0 in the third leg of their four-country soccer friendly series on Monday.
The Spanish soccer powerhouse suffered 1-0 only six minutes into the game when Tokyo Verdy's Daigo Kobayashi netted on a pass from behind to open the scoring.
The Japanese continued to surprise the visitors by often interrupting Spanish passes and Takuya Yamada set up for Brazilian striker Washington's goal in the 26th minute before ending the first half.
The Japanese side increased the defence line to four men after the break and Yamada dived for a difficult header on a right corner off Kobayashi to make it three up in the 53rd minute.
Real got some close shots at goal towards the end of the game but they were never able to find the target as the rain started to fall at the Tokyo stadium.
For Verdy, struggling at 17th in the 18-team J-League first division, it was sweet revenge for their 4-0 loss to Real a year ago here.
