Kenya to play with Tunisia in empty stadium at home: FIFA
font size

Kenya will play its next home 2006 World Cup qualifier against Tunisia "behind closed doors" -- in an stadium without audience, world football governing body FIFA ordered in a statement Monday.

This decision was passed by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee as a punishement for violence at a June qualifying match agaist Morocco. Before the June 18 match, overzealous fans waiting outside of the Nyayo stadium lost patience and broke into the stadium. During the chaos, a 15-year-old school boy was stampeded to death and scores were injured.

The Kenya Football Federation has also been fined 25,000 Swiss francs (about 19,300 US dollars).

"According to the report from the match commissioner, a series of other incidents also took place before, during and after the game," the statement said.
